Win Win Winner
In the spirit of a little Spunique silliness we decided a bit of a competition is in order - of both the shopkeeping and the practical kind. Up for grabs is a chance to own the winner of this minor showing-off contest.
So, without further ado…. this weekend we’ll pit the honed and toned athleticism of Sebastian Bergne’s ‘BANDIT’ against the solid sturdy gumption of Chris Jarratt’s ‘SLINGSHOT’ in a battle of firing skills including; accuracy, distance, impact, and blammo (not sure what that is yet, but we’ll think of something).
If you’d like to take a punt at securing yourself the winner, each a fine example of British design and fun, then email us with your name and a contact number .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). The winner will be selected at random on Monday 17 October.

Aplenty
This year’s London Design Festival has a real sense of momentum and a pleasantly unavoidable presence. Perhaps it’s because this is a year where we’ve been able to stand back and watch the activities unfold rather than get bogged down in the drama of exhibiting? Maybe it’s also something to do with the public’s increasing confidence in, and awareness of, British design and creativity?
Whatever it is that gives this year’s festival that extra bit of meatiness is hard to pin down, but we’ll be enjoying as much of it as we can this week. Needless to say, many-a-Spuniquer is participating in the festival this year, and our diary is jam-packed with good stuff to see and do. You can see the following Spuniquer’s work at many venues:
Sebastian Bergne
Creator of the splendid Lego Greenhouse in the Covent Garden Plaza. 15-25 September
Simon Donald
It’s been a big year for Simon, setting up his own studio along with creating new pieces. His beautiful ‘Bowlb’ can be seen at 3 Yeoman’s Row as part of Brompton Design District, and his Desk Clock for Another Country is on show at Design Junction , between 22-25 September.
Nick Fraser
Launches his new Herb Planter at 100% Design from 22 September, and is showing other pieces in the pop-up shop at Design Junction from 22-25 September.
Alex Hulme
Alex shows off his talent for injecting the ordinary with a bit of unusualness at KK Outlet’s ongoing ‘Object Abuse’ show.
Christopher Jarratt
Ready. Set. Kerpow. In collaboration with YCN, Chris Jarratt launches (please excuse the pun) his slingshots in the UK. From Saturday 17 September at the Rivington Street HQ.
Michael Marriott
Perhaps the busiest Spuniquer on the circuit, Michael is involved in three events with three new products.
– A Brancusi-inspired Rota Stacker installation at SCP (look out for these in the shop soon). From Tuesday 22 September
– The intriguingly named Paella Table at KK Outlet’s ongoing ‘Object Abuse’ show
– A limited edition beer glass for Design Marketo’s pop-up Bar Alto. Looking forward to taking an East End break with this one. 20-25 September.
Barnaby Tuke
Launching his new retail and manufacturing business, Tuke + Tuke, Barnaby shows works big and small at The Tramshed from 22 September, and has a spot in Design Junction’s pop-up shop too.
David Weatherhead
Last, but not least, David Weatherhead is busy again with new work this year. Launching his ‘Primary’ clock at the Theo pop-ups in Covent Garden and the Shoreditch Design Triangle. He also presents his intriguingly named ‘Toy Maker’s Clock’ at Ground Floor Arrangement Band as part of the Brompton Design District from 17-25 September.
Phew… now you know why we’re sensing such momentum. Each day this week we’ll post and tweet images from these loosely Spunique related goings on.
We’re also presenting a new product in the shop every day between 20 and 25 September. More on that then.
