Emily Sugihara is a California-raised, Brooklyn-based designer and is the originator of Baggu. Founded in 2007 in association with her mother (who could sew a mean seam and was an upholder of reusable values) Emily’s company has now grown to incorporate fellow designers and other collaborators. She puts the basic design of the Baggu shape down to her mother’s sewing acumen, the practicality down to the shopping woes of the native New-Yorker (perhaps better known as plastic-sack-hands) and the ever changing range of design and styles down to the brilliant individuals she continues to work with.
An example of Baggu’s collaborative work is also available on Spunique; the
tie-dye canvas bag range produced in association with designer
Shabd Alexander.
