Jair is the much deserving recipient of the 2010 Brit Insurance Design Award for Furniture. This prize was given in recognition of Jair’s ‘Grassworks’ series - a succession of experiments in self-assembly furniture designed to be simple, space-saving and wholly sustainable.

Straschnow studied first industrial design at the Holon Institute of Technology, followed by postgraduate studies at the Applied Arts Department of the Sandberg Instituut. His studio is based in Amsterdam where he continues to experiment with products and installations of both aesthetic and material integrity.
